CSU Student Research Competition

The CSU Student Research Competition is held each spring to promote excellence in undergraduate and graduate scholarly research and creative activity by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments across the 23 CSU campuses.

Current undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent alumni from all academic disciplines can participate. Each year, over 200 students from the 23 CSU campuses submit written papers and make oral presentations before juries of professional experts from major corporations, foundations, public agencies, and universities in California. Cash prizes are awarded.

This year's virtual research competition occurred on Friday April 24, 2020. Ten students were selected to represent Cal Poly following an internal competition in February 2020. (See their pre-recorded presentations https://studentresearch.calpoly.edu/csu-research-competition)

Two of our FSN students were selected amongst the 10 CalPoly finalists:

Mykayla Latronica, MS Food Science, Session 8: Biological and Agricultural Sciences, with Dr. Amanda Lathrop as her advisor, presented on "Inactivation on E. Coli O157:H7Salmonella and Listeria Monocytogenes in Agricultural Soil Using Biofumigation"

Kelly Condron, MS Nutrition, '19, Session 19: Interdisciplinary, with Dr. Aydin Nazmi as her advisor, presented her research on "The Impact of CalFresh Outreach on Food Security Status among Cal Poly Students".

Kelly finished first place in her category!

Congratulations to both of our students and to Kelly for her first place!
